As users and mediators of data, librarians have an opportunity to use visual tools to look deeper, communicate better, and stimulate moments of insight for our users. What do we mean by infographics? Infographics are visual representations of data or knowledge- in their most familiar forms we know them best as charts, graphs, maps, timelines, etc. More powerful than words or pictures alone, infographics use both words and imagery to convey an ‘ah ha!’ moment. In this presentation, Carol and Skye will discuss the basics of information visualization in the library environment, including a look at areas such as library statistics, signage and training. They will also cover best practices for designing infographics, and discuss some freely available tools and resources.
